I'm trying to figure out how to promote self published artists at medium scale conventions (3k-4k attendees).
The issue we have is that most attendees spend the majority of their money in Trade Hall, and spend their change at Artists Alley. Most of this change will be spent on Fan Art.We had some wonderful artists with self published work only before, but judging by the attention they received they didn't do very well at all.
On the flipside, when I attended MCM London some years ago, they got in webcomic artists. And people rushed to that area to get physical copies of the comics and sign them and get merch.
From that my feeling is:
If they have gotten big enough to have their own following, there will be fans of their work and they can make sales.
I think what we need is people to become fans/interested on the weekend..
Main suggestion I have RN is to buy copies of the work and put it with the manga library (where we have stuff shoenn Jump and TokyoPop publications) so people can read it there and become fans. Then they might go and buy some merch?
Any more suggestions on how to build some hype? I'm really at a loss =__=
